Proper Washing & Drying to Prevent Knotting
Preventing knotting isn’t just about brushing — it’s about proper drying. A damp coat is what creates matting.
Washing Steps
1. Brush the dog fully to remove loose fur & tangles
2. Wet the coat thoroughly
3. Apply dog shampoo (or Dawn if necessary) — avoid eyes & ears
4. Rinse all shampoo out of the coat
5. Apply conditioner if needed — rinse completely
6. Towel dry just to remove most of the water (no rubbing that twists the coat)
7. Clean ears if needed
⸻
Dog Blow Drying — The MOST Important Part
This is where knotting is prevented.
• Start on the back of the dog and work down (Doing one side of the dog at a time)
• Use a circular motion with the dryer to separate coat fibers
• Begin about 1.5 foot away and slowly move closer
• Brush while drying if needed to keep the coat smooth
This keeps the fur fluffy and healthy instead of twisting into tight matting.

Why We Do It This Way
✅ Prevents moisture trapped in coat
✅ Stops friction knots
✅ Keeps skin healthy and irritation-free
✅ Helps the dog learn calm handling and structure
Calm grooming → better focus → better relationship
