- Begin with your dog in a sitting position.
- Hold a treat close to their nose, then slowly lower it towards the ground.
- As your dog follows the treat, their body will naturally lower into a lying down position.
- Once your dog is fully lying down, say "down" in a calm, assertive voice and immediately reward them with the treat.
- Repeat this process, gradually phasing out the need for a treat but continuing with verbal praise and occasional rewards.
-If you are having problems: Place your Leg in a stretched position and guide the dog under your leg. As the dog is crawling under your leg say “Down”, once fully Down say “Good Down”
(This allows the dog to think their crawling under a barrier, and makes this process much easier)
